ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To compare the clinical efficacy between herbal-moxa plaster and moxa-box moxibustion for diarrhea type irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) of spleen and kidney yang deficiency.@*METHODS@#Eighty patients with IBS-D of spleen and kidney yang deficiency were randomly divided into a herbal-moxa plaster group and a moxa-box moxibustion group, 40 cases in each group. The patients in the two groups were treated with conventional acupuncture at Baihui (GV 20), Yintang (GV 24+), Zhongwan (CV 12) and bilateral Tianshu (ST 25), Yinlingquan (SP 9), and Taixi (KI 3), etc. In addition, the patients in the herbal-moxa plaster group were treated with herbal-moxa plaster (Wenyang Fuzheng ointment, composed of prepared monkshood, prepared evodia rutaecarpa, dried ginger, cinnamon, etc.) at Shenque (CV 8), Guanyuan (CV 4), Zhongwan (CV 12) and bilateral Tianshu (ST 25), Shenshu (BL 23) and Shangjuxu (ST 37); the patients in the moxa-box moxibustion group were treated with moxa-box moxibustion at the same acupoints as the herbal-moxa plaster group. The acupuncture-moxibustion treatment was provided once every other day for 4 weeks (14 treatments). Before and after treatment, the scores of clinical symptom of TCM, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptom severity scale (IBS-SSS) and IBS quality of life scale (IBS-QOL) were compared between the two groups, and the clinical efficacy was evaluated.@*RESULTS@#Compared with those before treatment, each item scores and total scores of clinical symptom of TCM, and IBS-SSS scores in the two groups were reduced after treatment (P<0.05). The abdominal bloating score, stool frequency score and total score of clinical symptom of TCM as well as IBS-SSS score in the herbal-moxa plaster group were lower than those in the moxa-box moxibustion group (P<0.05). Compared with those before treatment, the IBS-QOL scores in the two groups were increased after treatment (P<0.05), and the IBS-QOL score in the herbal-moxa plaster group was higher than that in the moxa-box moxibustion group (P<0.05). The total effective rate was 92.5% (37/40) in the herbal-moxa plaster group, which was higher than 85.0% (34/40) in the moxa-box moxibustion group (P<0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#On the basis of conventional acupuncture treatment, herbal-moxa plaster could effectively improve the clinical symptoms and quality of life in IBS-D patients of spleen and kidney yang deficiency, and its efficacy is superior to that of moxa-box moxibustion.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the effect of the tactile vibration feedback system on the balance and walking function of the unilateral transitional amputees with prostheses. Methods:From October, 2019 to November 2020, eleven unilateral transtibial amputees with prostheses were selected from our hospital. They performed daily activities for three hours wearing tactile vibration feedback system designed by our department. The patients were evaluated by Performance Oriented Mobility Assessment (POMA), gait analysis and outdoor 1000 meters complex road walking test before and after treatment. Results:The balance score of the POMA improved (Z = -2.264, P < 0.05), the gait score and total score of the POMA increased significantly (|t| > 6.249, P < 0.001) after treatment. Gait analysis showed that the step length of the affected side improved, the bilateral step time and double support phase shortened, and the walking speed increased (|t| > 2.250, |Z| > 2.756, P < 0.05) after installation. The outdoor 1000 meters complex road walking test showed that the total steps, energy consumption and time decreased (|t| > 2.412, |Z| > 2.045, P < 0.05). All the patients finished the trail, and no discomfort appeared. Conclusion:The tactile vibration feedback system could safely and effectively improve the balance and walking function of the unilateral transtibial amputees with prostheses.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the effect of water-based pulmonary rehabilitation on stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods:From February, 2020 to February, 2021, 50 patients with stable COPD in our hospital were divided into control group (n = 25) and experimental group (n = 25), who accepted pulmonary rehabilitation training on land and in water, for eight weeks. They were measured forced expiratory volume in first second (FEV1), percents of forced expiratory volume in first second for prediction (FEVl%) and ratio of forced expiratory volume in first second in forced vital capacity (FEV1/FVC) with pulmonary function instrument; measured root mean square (RMS) of electromyogram of diaphragm and right transversus abdominis with surface electromyography; and assessed with modified breathlessness measurement of British Medical Research Council (mMRC), 6-minute walk test (6MWT) and quality of life scale for COPD adults (COPD-QOL) before and after treatment. Results:FEV1, FEVl%, FEV1/FVC, RMS of diaphragm and transversus abdominis, and 6MWT distance and COPD-QOL score increased in both group (t > 2.08, P < 0.05), and increased more in the experimental group than in the control group (t > 2.27, P < 0.05); while mMRC score decreased (t > 2.09, P < 0.05), and decreased more in the experimental group than in the control group (t = 2.13, P < 0.05). Conclusion:Water-based pulmonary rehabilitation training can further improve lung function, strength of respiratory muscles, dyspnea, tolerance and quality of life for patients with COPD.

ABSTRACT

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) is a kind of metabolic liver injury, which is closely associated with insulin resistance and genetic susceptibility. Traditional Chinese herbs used in the treatment of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease are widely investigated in recent years. A series of recent studies show that the effects of the active components in traditional Chinese herbs on NAFLD are associated with activating AMPK signaling pathway, improving insulin resistance, modulating the activity and expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities and regulating intestinal flora. In this review, the potential therapeutic targets of the active components from traditional Chinese herbs for NAFLD would be summarized to provide a new thought for further research and clinical treatment of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the therapeutic effect of electroacupuncture on patients with osteoarthritis, and to observe the effect of electroacupuncture on the level of IL-1beta and TNFalpha.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Forty-three subjects received electroacupuncture treatment at Liangqiu (ST 34), Xuehai (SP 10), Yinlingquan (SP 9), etc. The intensity of pain, the ability of the movement of legs, the level of IL-1beta and TNF-alpha in patients were measured before and after treatment.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>According to VAS, the intensity of pain was (64.22 +/- 14.55) and (32.50 +/- 10.79) before and after treatment, respectively. The score of movement ability of affected legs was (7.38 +/- 2.01) and (9.05 +/- 1.89) before and after treatment, respectively. Thus, the intensity of pain and the ability of movement were significantly improved after treatment (P < 0.01). The level of IL-1beta and TNF-alpha in patients were significantly decreased (both P < 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The short term therapeutic effect of electroacupuncture on patients with osteoarthritis is better, it may result from that the electroacupuncture inhibit the activity of IL-1beta and TNF-alpha.</p>

ABSTRACT

@#ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of nifedipine(Nif) on experimental pulmonary hypertension(PH).Methods33 adult male Wistar rats were randomly divided into normal control group, model group and Nif treatment group(n=11 for each group). Rats were given a single dose of subcutaneous monocrotaline(MCT,50 mg/kg) to induce the model of pulmonary hypertension, then treated with gastric infusion of normal saline or Nif respectively for 21 days. The parameters of pulmonary hemodynamics were monitored by Gould3400 polygraph system through the cannulation of polyvinyl tube. Right ventricle and left ventricle added with interventricular septum weight ratio, and the lung wet weight were measured.ResultsNif significantly inhibited the progression of pulmonary artery pressure(P<0.01), decreased the right heart index(P<0.01), but did not significantly reduce the lung wet weight(P>0.05).ConclusionChronic treatment with Nif may effectively reduce the development of PH induced by MCT and improve the heart function.
